Primal Frontier, a story that fits right in

Primal-Frontier_coverToday I have a cool story from a commenter (Eccentric Cowboy) that I wanted to share because it’s basically Dinosaur Cowboys but in the 1860-1870 era instead of future-retro-ey like the game :)

The author seems like a gun enthusiast so all the good stuff like lever-action and elephant guns are there (he’d probably love the “Bronto Gun”). As well as important questions like What Kind of Gun to use Dinosaur Hunting? (the answer is obviously a laser based Lever-Action rifle).

Anyway you can see his announcement here and read other dinosaur + explorer related info at his main blog:

From the author:
“Primal Frontier is a Weird West alternate history setting in the 1860’s and 1870’s on a massive continent that is populated by all sorts of exotic creatures from our past, the most prominent being dinosaurs. It is a primitive and savage land, bristling with dangerous animals and hostile natives. This land of mystery and peril has been only scarcely explored. But brave men and women will venture into the unknown and encounter all manner of adventures.”
(From this blog post)

Yes please!

So far the story is meant to be the first in a series. It’s only available for Kindle on Amazon (if you don’t have a Kindle there is a downloadable PC app, or you can read in a webrowser with their great Kindle Cloud Reader page). You can buy the story here for less than a cup of coffee:

I picked up a copy today so I’ll update this post in the future to let you know what I thought.

Man, I’m gone for two weeks, come back and you’ve done a bagillion new posts, well done! XD

Thanks for the shout out too, it means a heck of a lot to me! :D And not only that, but I come with good tidings! It seems you CAN read my book without having a Kindle! You can download an app for your computer or other devices. Take a look see! :)
    Hope it helps!

And you are correct in your supposition that I’m an aficionado of firearms! If you ever want to chat it up about guns for dino hunting, I’m always game. :)

Yeah but look at the activity before that, it’s preeeeetty dead for close to a year. :) I definitely spike in my posting volume and tend to save up a bunch of topics.

I saw that Amazon had a “Kindle for PC” version, but I happened to go to the page initially in Linux and the download button didn’t appear. But I went there yesterday in Windows and could download the software, so I’ll be picking up a copy of your story before the end of the week.

I confess I did notice a rather sad lack of activity for a period of time, but I’m glad I’ve been around when you spiked it up! Your game sessions sound fun and are always a charm to read. Speaking of which, I’ve gotta read the other fiction pieces you posted. I read the first one and it was actually very well done, I was pleasantly surprised! :D

Oh, that’s awesome to hear! Glad that the compatibility issue has gotten resolved. I’m a borderline caveman around computers and would have just offered up sacrifices to the rising sun and hoped that the Amazon Dieties would resolve the issue for me. XD
I hope you have fun with my story! I’d love to hear what you think. :D

      • Dinosaur Cowboy Says:

Yeah I’ve had the blog for a while so it’s tough to keep posting consistently for all these years. Thanks for taking a look at my fiction pieces, I actually just posted my full Nanowrimo stories if you’re interested in more non-Dinosaur related stuff (

I’m hoping to sit down with your book soon, just hard to find the time now that spring is starting!
